A pedestrian is visible to a driver with a dipped beam at 30 metres. If the car is moving at 50mph (80 km/h) it will travel 22 metres in a second. The driver has only 1.2 seconds to react and take action.

A Road Safety Study carried out in Finland has shown that pedestrians wearing a reflector are eight times safer than those without one.
